National Tree Day - 31 July 2011

Many local residents, bush- care volunteers, Rotary and Lions Club members, and council officers turned out to participate in the 2011 National Tree Day planting. This year the event came to the Samford area and each 2 years takes place in other parts of Division 11.

More than 3,000 trees and shrubs were 2007 planting planted as part of this project after 18 months and with good weather condi- tions the vast majority of planting will have reached 2.5 to 3m in height by their first anniversary. Apart from making a significant contribution to protecting the South Pine Rivers corridor and improv- ing the natural biodiversity, the latest planting will assist in taking up 140 tonnes of carbon emissions over the next 10 years.
